HANDICAP INFORMATION

1) RLGA Membership: entitles you to a 9-hole or 18-hole USGA Handicap.

2) The USGA Golf Handbook states: “Every player will endeavor to make the best score he can at each hole in every round that he plays and that he will report every round for handicap purpose, regardless of where the round is played.”

3) A Handicap Index:(example: 16.2) is a number that represents the potential ability of a player on a course of standard difficulty.

4) A Course Handicap: (example 16) represents the potential ability of a player on that particular course.

5) How To Establish A Handicap: When you join the RLGA you will be assigned a GHIN number, which will be posted in the ladies lounge. Use that number to post 5 gross scores in the computer. Within two weeks of posting your fifth score, your handicap will be computed.

6) When You Have A Handicap:
     • You MUST post on the computer an ADJUSTED SCORE (Equitable Stroke Control) for EVERY round of play, not just league play.
     • You MAY NOT post scores for unusual rounds such as scrambles and club restrictions. (example: 4 Clubs & a Putter” or “Ironing Day”).

7) USGA Handicap System Handbook: copy is in the Ladies Lounge.

ADJUSTED SCORES are posted on the computer.
GROSS SCORES are used for contests and tournaments.

POSTING SCORES
FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES

Scores posted on the Computer: www.GHIN.com

1. All 18-hole rounds.

2. All 9-hole rounds.

3. Incomplete Round of Golf
     • Play 6 holes or less Do NOT post score.
     • Play 7 – 12 holes Post a 9-hole score.
     • Play 13 – 18 holes Post an 18-hole score.

4. Incomplete Holes:
     • Scores for the holes not played shall be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes entitled for that hole.
     • If you start a hole but don’t finish out, record the score you most likely would have made on the hole (for handicap purposes).
     • In the case of putting, (i.e. in a match-play competition) if a putt is “given” and you determine you can make a putt of that distance at least 50% of the time, then count your score as if you had made the putt.

5. Both Match Play and Stroke Play rounds.

6. All rounds played in Tournaments are entered with a designation of “T” for Tournament, as they carry more weight in the determination of one’s handicap. The Committee will provide advance notification of which events are considered Tournaments for handicap purposes.

NOTE: when posting scores for handicap purposes for all complete or
incomplete holes, you should not post a score greater than the
Equitable Stroke Control score as described below.
